Debby ShannafeltBass/VocalsMy first stage performance was as a singer/guitar duet in the early 70s. Of course, it was my sixth grade talent show. Tough crowd, but we played an encore to a standing ovation. Armed with the confidence that only grade-school peers can give, my musical career skyrocketed a short time later when I was recruited to play the flute in the Ballard Youth Band, directed by Dr. Alf Knudsen, and Ballard Marching Band, directed by Perry Barth. I’ve been buskin’ ever since.
I sing and play a little piano, guitar, drums, flute and ukulele and I’m looking forward to learning a few tunes on the mandolin soon. My heart, however, belongs to the bass guitar and my hubby, Mike, a drummer. The greater Seattle area is rich with musical talent and we welcome a rotating cast of musicians to play with our band, ShannaJam— a rock and blues explosion of sound and soul. We’ve played at local fundraising events, reunions, open mics and a handful of festivals. There’s also The Corporate ELLES, a groovy, new project I’m pleased to be a part of, along with Nan Parent, Heidi Wischler and Judy Allen. We dig three- and four-part harmonies covering blues/rock with a mix of covers and original pieces. Check us out at one of our upcoming gigs or events because there always room for more music in your life! |
